Santiago Asensi is Managing Partner and founder of Asensi Abogados having previously been General Counsel to Maltese operator Eurogaming. He is a qualified lawyer specializing in Gaming & Gambling law, an expert in regulation, contract law and litigation for both online and land-based operators, and gambling-related stakeholders in Spain.

Santiago developed the first online gambling regulatory regime Colombia which has been held up by experts as a model and widely imitated in jurisdictions across Latin America. He is a senior member of leading international gaming law associations and an author and frequent speaker at international conferences.

Alla joined Asensi Abogados in 2011 and has been a partner of the firm since September 2017. Previously, she worked in house at Indra Sistemas SA, Spain’s premier IT company.

Alla graduated in Law at the ESADE Business School (Barcelona) from where she was also awarded a Master’s in Business Law. She specializes in Gaming & Gambling law, is an expert in licensing procedures, regulatory and compliance related both to online and land-based operators.

Alla is been ranked in the Global Gaming & Gambling section of Chambers, the independent guide to the world’s leading lawyers. Her experience and expertise in international gaming and gambling matters is highlighted with clients praising her as «terrific, formidable and tremendous». She writes authoritatively on the Spanish gambling industry and is also a regular speaker at international conferences. She is a member the International Masters of Gaming Law (IMGL) and the International Association of Gaming Advisors (IAGA).

Marina Villalonga joined Asensi Abogados in October 2022 and she is leading the M&A and corporate department. She graduated in Law in 2007 and she has worked for top-tier firms as Garrigues and Buades Legal within the Corporate Department, advising both national and international companies.

Marina has wide expertise in M&A, contractual law, insolvency and touristic law. She is a qualified lawyer, too, in New Technologies, e-commerce and Data Protection, and has worked as a data protection officer for many entities.

Marina speaks Spanish, English and mid-level in French.

Juan Cardona is a qualified lawyer in Spain as well as he passed the New York Bar Exam. Juan co-leads the Litigation Department at Asensi Abogados. He has extensive experience advising on pre-litigation and litigation matters with expertise in Civil and Commercial Contracts Law, Business and Corporate Law and Unfair Competition Law.

Prior to joining Asensi Abogados in 2019, Juan worked for one of the top Spanish international law firms, Garrigues, advising numerous national and international companies, especially in the tourism industry. He has also worked as a judicial fellow for the Civil Branch of the New York State Supreme Court.

Juan graduated in Law and gained a Master’s in Advocacy from the Balearic Islands University (Majorca, Spain) and a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Business Regulation, Litigation and Arbitration from the New York University School of Law (USA)

Sofía García-Carpintero joined Asensi Abogados as a lawyer in April 2019. Previously, she worked at Illeslex Abogados, a law firm specializing in property, tax advisory and civil litigation.

Sofía graduated in Law from Universidad Autónoma of Madrid in 2015 and studied a Master’s in Legal Practice at Universitat Oberta of Catalonia.

She is a member of the International Association of Gaming Advisors (IAGA).

Natalia Casabé joined the Litigation Department of Asensi Abogados in February 2021. Previously, she worked for different Spanish law firms specializing in unfair terms as Unive Abogados or Arriaga Asociados. She also has considerable expertise in Civil Ligation and Gambling Law.

Natalia graduated in Law from the University of the Balearic Islands (Palma de Mallorca) in 2015 and obtained a Master’s degree in Law from the same university in 2016. During the spring semester of 2014-2015 she studied Political Sciences in the University of Padova (Italy) as an exchange student with the Erasmus Program.

Begoña Bernaldo de Quirós joined Asensi Abogados in May 2021. Previously, she worked at the Broseta law firm and for Altamira Real Estate.

Begoña is a qualified lawyer specialised in Insolvency, Civil Litigation and Gambling Law. She graduated in Law and Business Management from Pontifical Comillas University (ICADE) in 2012 and obtained an LLM in Legal and Corporate Business at IE Law School in 2015.

Víctor del Águila joined Asensi Abogados in October 2022. He had previously worked for top-tier law firms such as Cuatrecasas and Garrigues, always within the Litigation and Arbitration department.

Víctor graduated in Law and Business Administration from the Carlos III University (Madrid) and obtained the Master’s in legal practice from La Rioja International University (UNIR).

Víctor speaks Spanish, English and mid-level in French.

Jaime has extensive experience advising on pre-litigation and litigation matters with expertise in Civil and Touristic Law, Urbanism and Administrative Law.

Jaime graduated in Law from Universidad Complutense of Madrid in 2006 and participated in the entrance exams to the Judicial and Prosecutorial career. He also gained a Master of Law in Tourism and a Master’s degree in Urban Law from the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB).

Prior to joining Asensi Abogados, Jaime worked for Illeslex Abogados, advising numerous national and international clients especially in the tourism industry.

Marta de Francisco joined Asensi Abogados in July 2022.

Prior to joining Asensi Abogados, Marta worked for one of the top-tier Spanish international law firms, where she gained experience advising numerous national and international companies on pre-litigation and litigation matters with expertise in Civil.

Marta graduated in Law from Universidad Carlos III of Madrid in 2017 and obtained a Master’s in Law from Universidad Pontificia Comillas and a Master’s in Global Business Law from ESADE Business School.

Irene joined the litigation Department of Asensi Abogados in February 2025.

In 2014, she graduated in Law from the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) and, subsequently, in 2015, she obtained a Master’s in Legal Practice from the same university. In September 2016, she moved to Madrid, where she studied the Master’s in business Advisory and Taxation at the Center for Financial Studies (CEF).

Since 2017, she has been developing her professional career as a lawyer, specializing in banking procedural law and working at well-known firms such as Arriaga Asociados and MA Abogados in Palma de Mallorca.

Irene speaks Spanish, English and Catalan.

Gonzalo Cantero Puig is a highly skilled legal professional specializing in blockchain and digital assets. With a strong academic background and practical experience in financial regulations, he provides expert guidance on compliance, licensing, and risk management in the evolving fintech landscape.

He holds a Master of Laws from the Illustrious Bar Association of the Balearic Islands. He graduated cum laude with a Law degree from the University of the Balearic Islands, authoring a Bachelor’s Thesis on MiCA Regulation.

In his current role at Asensi Abogados, Gonzalo advises clients on financial regulations, including MiFID II, PSD2 and MiCA. He ensures compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) requirements and structures licensing strategies for financial products and services. His previous role as a business litigator at Garrigues gave him valuable experience in complex litigation and dispute resolution.

Fluent in Spanish, Catalan and English, Gonzalo brings an international perspective to his practice. His expertise, combined with a passion for finance and emerging technologies, positions him as a valuable asset in the legal and financial sectors.

Iliana joined Asensi Abogados in March 2025.

She has previously worked in the fields of contractual and transportation law.

Iliana is a qualified lawyer specialised in international commercial law, civil litigation and arbitration. She graduated in Law from Complutense University of Madrid and holds a master’s degree in civil litigation practice from Centre of Legal Studies and Investigation of Madrid (CEIJ) and another one in international commercial law from La Rioja International University (UNIR).

Iliana speaks English, Spanish and Bulgarian.

Carolina Bermejillo joined Asensi in January 2025. With a solid professional background, she has held various roles in the horse racing industry in Spain and so has been linked to the gambling sector since 2010, having taken part in different conferences and summits. She also has extensive academic experience, teaching Economics and Law, both in Spanish and English, at various prestigious private universities and is the author of several research papers.

Carolina holds a PhD in Law from the CEU San Pablo University since 2015, with a Doctoral Thesis on the regulation of horse betting in Europe, having obtained the highest qualification, unanimous Cum Laude. She holds a Master’s Degree in Legal Practice by the UNED, in addition to a Master’s Degree in Multimedia Communication, Online Marketing and Internet Advertising. She is a graduate in Law and Legal Sciences of Public Administration from the UNED, having obtained the Award for the Best Academic Record of the promotion 2019/2022. In addition, she has a degree in Business Administration and Management, specializing in Auditing, from the University CEU San Pablo, also achieving the Angel Herrera Award for the Best Academic Record of the promotion 2007/2012.

Carolina speaks Spanish and English.

Sara Lao Torroella is a lawyer specialized in Data Protection and Commercial Law.

Before joining Asensi Abogados, she worked at a leading law firm in the Balearic Islands, where she gained experience in corporate transactions, contracts, asset acquisitions, banking law, and regulatory compliance in data protection.

Sara holds a double degree in Law and Business Administration from the Universidad Internacional de Cataluña (UIC) and a Master’s Degree in Law Practice from the Universidad Pompeu Fabra (UPF). Additionally, she specialized in Corporate and M&A at ISDE Madrid and completed a Master’s in General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) at UNED, earning professional certifications in privacy and data protection, such as DPO Junior (APEP) and CDPP (ISMS Fórum).

Fernando Tesón de Troya joined Asensi Abogados in December 2024. He is a lawyer with a solid track record in digital law and regulatory compliance, with experience in both national and international markets. Throughout his career, he has advised companies in the technology, financial and digital entertainment sectors, ensuring their compliance with complex and constantly evolving regulatory frameworks.

Currently, he leads the Asensi office in Ceuta where his work focuses on regulatory advisory, compliance and the optimization of corporate structures for companies operating in highly regulated sectors such as iGaming, blockchain technology, financial systems and data protection.

At the international level, he has worked with companies across multiple jurisdictions, providing legal solutions tailored to diverse regulatory environments. His experience includes licensing processes, liaising with regulatory bodies, implementing anti-money laundering (AML/CFT) programs, and designing compliance strategies for key markets.

Juan Camilo Carrasco is Partner of Asensi Abogados in Colombia. He is the head of the office and lead lawyer for gaming and corporate law for clients in the region.

In addition to his law degree, Juan Camilo has studied International Business Law at Harvard Law School and Centro de Estudios Garrigues. He holds a certificate in conciliation and dispute resolution from Universidad de la Sabana.

Juan Camilo is a regular speaker at local and international industry conferences promoting the development of the Latin American region. He has contributed to several articles in specialist industry publications and authored manuals on Regulatory Law for Colombia. Juan Camilo is a member of the International Association of Gaming Advisors (IAGA).

Juliana Duque joined Asensi Abogados in April of 2022. Previously, she worked at recognized LATAM law firms such as Posse Herrera Ruiz and several large multinationals such as LG Electronics and Canacol Energy.

Juliana is a qualified lawyer specializing in Corporate and M&A, Tax, Commercial and IP, Foreign Investment, Compliance and Regulatory Law.

Juliana graduated as a lawyer from La Sabana University (Bogotá) in 2006 and obtained a Master’s Degree in Business Law from La Sabana University in 2021.
